Butsudan, a Buddhist altar, used to be in every home in Japan mainly to pray for their ancestors. However the custom has been changed for over the decades, and modern Japanese houses do not have a space to install the altar. IOTOSE, which means a long time in ancient Japanese, is a project that Butsudan artisans make use of their skills in different forms by creating daily products.
The team consist from 5 different artisans; woodworking, carving, metal fitting, lacquering, painting. They have collaborated beyond their territories not only their specialities but also religions.
The line-ups were produced by the artisans with the help of our creative direction, and the products were exhibited at Aoyama Square, which introduces Japanese traditional crafts in Tokyo.
